Afterlife (The Swarm Trilogy #2) by Megg Jensen

Blurb from Goodreads:

The fire inside Lianne threatened to consume her, but she fought back and won. Unfortunately the collateral damage of her decisions won’t stop haunting her. She embarks on a secret trip to find Mags and return her son, but her search leads her into another nest of lies.

Everyone’s safety is in Lianne’s hands as the Malborn, an enemy more fearsome than her own people, looms over them. Will Lianne be able to unravel the secrets in time to save the ones she loves the most? Or will her lack of faith in her own decisions lead to disaster?

Afterlife weaves some of the favorite characters from the Cloud Prophet Trilogy (Anathema, Oubliette, and Severed) into The Swarm Trilogy as Lianne comes face-to-face with a character introduced at the end of Severed.

My Thoughts:

Wow! I LOVE this book! Megg Jensen totally rocked this story. I love how the characters are so fresh and original. The story flows perfectly and sucks you in from the very first paragraph.

Afterlife is the second book in the Swarm Trilogy and picks up right where Sleepers left off. Lianne has just discovered her magic and isn't quite sure how to use it or even control it. She is on a mission to return her best friend's baby to her. After accomplishing this she discovers that there is certain people that want her for her powerful magic and will do anything to get their hands on this for their own gain.

I definitely recommend this book!

The Land of the Gems by Vanessa Rose Lee

Blurb from Amazon:

Kate Stanford hopes for a fun summer. Little does she know, but she is in for an adventure of a lifetime!

One day, Kate and her roommates open a chest and are taken to the Land of the Gems. Kate and her friends soon start to realize that the kingdom needs their help. Join Kate and her friends on their journey to the Land of the Gems!

My Thoughts:

This is a fun read. The world Vanessa created just sucked me in from the beginning. This is one I will read again and one my 9 year old daughter loves.

Kate goes to camp and is thrown into a world of magic gems. It is in this world that she learns to face her fears.

I enjoyed The Land of the Gems. To me it brought me back to my childhood and Alice in Wonderland. Though this book isn't really anything like Alice in Wonderland it had that same fantasy feel, a land where anything can happen.
