The Lockwood Chronicles Episode 3: Unchained Darkness by Katrina LaFond

“Alexander’s head pounded, and his stomach reeled at the pain. He stared at the woman and the beast within roared in frustration as he struggled to hold it back. It demanded that he pounce, drive her to the ground, tear into her. It wanted nothing more than to feed on her life’s blood, take her body violently. Alexander’s heart broke as he fought, trying desperately to get back in control. He used a burst of adrenaline to try to claim control of his body, and he dropped to his knees with the effort. He met Madeline’s gaze. ‘Kill me,’ he hissed through clenched teeth”

Alexander is behaving strangely. He’s being hostile to Madeline, refusing her advances, and leering at other women. He also realizes he’s been losing time, falling asleep at the office for no reason, and forgetting things. Then, one night, he loses control. He does something for which Madeline may never forgive him, and then he leaves the mansion, disappearing into the night.

Madeline is at a loss to explain the changes in Alexander. After 20 years together, is it possible that she never really knew him? Is it possible, that he’d been hiding such violent tendencies? And why would he do that? Why would he pretend to be something he’s not for so long? No, she’s convinced that something’s happened to him, that perhaps something’s been done to him. But how can she, a vampire of little more than two decades, hope to stand up to a one with the power of nine centuries? How can she bring him back?

I’ve always been a big reader. As a matter of fact, I’m told that I was already reading before I even started kindergarten—little things, of course, not Shakespeare. Over the years, I breezed through any writing assignment given to me, and even began to write on my own some during grade school. It was in high school, though, that I really began to get serious.

From the start I gravitated toward science fiction and fantasy stories. They were pretty tame and very adolescent, but I had a lot of fun writing them. I was reading books like Dune by Frank Herbert at the time, so most of what I wrote centered around outer space. It wasn’t until I started writing about vampires that I began to realistically think that I could write for a living. I read a book called The Initiation that was about vampires. The part I remember best was at the end, when the girl, who’d been turned into a vampire, allowed herself to die in the first rays of dawn rather than feed on the boy she loved. I remember that so vividly because I thought it was the most beautiful depiction of unconditional and unrequited love that I'd ever read (hey, I was a teenager, what did I know?). I immediately looked for more books like it but the selections were limited. All I could usually find were goofy stories for little kids or sappy romances for adults. I wasn’t really interested in any of those, so I thought to myself: Why don’t I write one?

Over the years, my vampires have grown and evolved with me, and now I write those ‘
sappy’romances I used to sneer about. Oh well, I’m a sappy grown-up I guess. I’ve tried writing stories more for teens, but I’ve discovered that if I try to control my characters too much, they rebel and the story becomes stagnant and boring, so I go with the flow.

When my web designer told me I was going to have to write something for her to put on
an“about me” page, I cringed, and I will admit I got a little nervous. I’m a pretty solid believer in not putting too much information about yourself online, but then I realized that with any story of mine that anyone reads, they learn a little more about me. Nearly every female character that has ever allowed me to write her story has more than a trait or two borrowed from me (and no, I won’t tell you which characters, or which traits). So, ‘about me’…. Suffice it to say that, I have been in a serious relationship with the same man for more than twenty years, and so far I haven’t found a reason to ruin that with marriage. We have a geriatric dog named Sandy who thinks she’s still a puppy. I work a full-time job because I don’t want to starve to death or live in my car. And I write every chance I get.

Tich's Review:

If you have not started The Lockwood Chronicles I highly recommend getting Episodes 1 and 2 along with this one. They have all been fabulous. The stories flow smoothly and the characters are fantastic and fun to read. I have enjoyed spending my time with the Lockwoods on their adventures. Each episode is short and can be read in one sitting, which is great if you're a busy mom.

Something is wrong with Alexander and Madeline is at a loss how to help him. Her loving and thoughtful husband has turned into something else entirely. His behavior is at times downright hateful. He is sleeping late and cannot account for long peroids of time.

The last time that their lives turned upside down someone had drugged Alexander. Could the same thing be happening again?

Grab these episode and sit down for some funfilled, edge of your seat, adventures.

This series is for the mature audience but not erotic.

My Review:

This was a great debut novel, I was very impressed.  The writing flowed nicely and the story was incredible. For a first novel I was thoroughly happy with the author's ability to create a story and characters that were so real you could reach out and touch them. I will definitely be buying more from this author when she releases more.

Samantha goes on vacation with her family and family friends. She is not at all excited about heading to their cabin because of an incident that happened a few years back.  At least her friends and her brother will be there to keep her company. Imagine her suprise when she finds out that Sean is home from college and will be going with them.

Samantha has always liked Sean and at one time he had liked her back but then they went to high school and he got a girlfriend. Spending this vacation with him in her cabin could turn out to be anything but fabulous.

The more they talk and hang out the more they realize that they still share some feelings for one another. There is only one problem there...Sean's girlfriend.

Again, this book is fantastic. Once you open the pages you can't stop!

The Lockwood Chronicles Episode 2: Reunions by Katrina LaFond

“..Need. Powerful, overwhelming need. It clawed at her insides and deluged her senses as the bloodlust took control of her. Her fangs burst into her mouth so suddenly that her bottom lip was pierced. She suckled blood from her own flesh, but it did nothing to abate the drive for fresh sustenance. She knew nothing but the desire to hunt. All rational and intelligent thought was driven from her brain as she staggered to her feet. On pure instinct alone, she transformed into a glistening black raven. A few beats of her powerful wings and she soared into the sky, towards the heart of the city…”

Madeline and Alexander Lockwood travel to America, to Madeline's hometown in Illinois, to attend her 20 year high school reunion. But things take a turn for the decidedly worse when Alexander is drugged and kidnapped by vampire hunters. Madeline must rely on powers she’s only just learning to use in her search for Alexander, but she cannot fail. New enemies and old conspire to keep them apart. Can she find him before it’s too late?

Tich's review:

The Lockwood Chronicles are a series of episodes, they make for a very fun and short read. I was so excited to read episode two because the first was so addicting and I was not disappointed. Katrina LaFond has written an alluring story that leaves you wanting more. The Lockwood Chronicles is well written and the characters are attractive and fun to read.

In this episode Madeline is going to her twenty year high school reunion. She is excited to bring her very attractive husband on her arm. All is going great, she is spending some time with her mother and showing off her husband to all of her old classmates. Then the unthinkable happens...Alexander is missing and her mother has been drugged. Who would do this and why?

I loved this episode more than the first...if that's possible. It is such a page turner, I couldn't stop reading until I was finished. If you are wanting a short Paranormal Romance then I recommend buying these. It is for the mature audience but not erotic.

My Review:

Excellent book! The Plantation is unique, I haven't read anything like it. The writing was remarkable, the characters were entertaining, and the storyline was phenomenal. It kept me turning the pages until I read the very last line.

This story reminds me Lost in the fact that the Saviors are hiding out in abandoned buildings, hoping that they won't be discovered by the Sliman and aliens.

The Plantations are terrible places for humans to be. The children that are held there are slaves to the aliens. When their purpose has been fulfilled bad things happen, the aliens see to it that they have no memories of that life.

Freya was rescued from the Plantation by her friend Finn. They join a group of teens called the Saviors. All they want is to be free from the aliens.

I recommend this to anyone looking for a fresh new read!

Lust After Dark Collection By Melissa F. Hart

Lust After Dark Collection By Melissa F.Hart

Book Description

In a world of vampire clans and expected alliances, Garrett is a loner. He hurts no one. He helps no one. But his very refusal to join a clan puts him in danger from the often vicious blood families. When a nearby clan sends a hunting party to convert or kill him, he encounters the deadly and beautiful Tahlia. The sparks immediately fly between the two vampires, leading to a final confrontation that could put them both at risk.

Book 2: Death and Desire

Rosalind lost her lover in the great clan wars over 300 years ago. Since then, she had been in mourning, existing only to take blood and to walk among her clan as little more than a shadow of what she was. One evening, she stumbles upon what she believes is a dying human man whose helplessness arouses both her curiosity and her hunger. In the heat of the moment, she is torn between feasting on his body and satisfying her sudden need to know what sort of creature he truly was. As she lunges in to take his life or to reveal his illusion, suddenly a third and most unexpected choice rises up in the darkness to catch her unawares: desire.

Book 3: Seduced

Isabel’s sister is being courted by the devil. Or so it appears to the headstrong lawyer who works among criminals everyday. This man, Micah, is too smooth, too practiced to be all he seems. Determined to prevent her sister from succumbing to the charms of a dangerous man, Isabel follows him and discovers his shocking secret: he’s a vampire. Now, knowing what she thinks is the worst about him, will Isabel be able to save her sister from Micah or will she too fall prey to the dangerous seducer?

Brenda's Review

All three stories are full of beautiful vampires and the erotic lives they lead. I really enjoyed this set and look forward to more from this amazing story teller!
Melissa brings her characters to life and you will fall in love with them all.

Hunter's Heart ~Garrett is loner,he helps no one and refuses to join with another clan. Most vampires are in a clan with others for safety in numbers. But Garrett prefers to be by himself. No one to answer to but himself.

A near by clan is out to get him into their clan or kill him.He is the hunted this time, not the hunter. He gets lured into an alley by the beautiful Tahlia. A vampire who wants to kill him. But when she gets Garrett alone, things suddenly turn on her. Not in a bad way.... Tahlia and Garrett end up suddenly in love and she must fight to protect him.

Death & Desire ~ Rosalind carries a grief for her long lost lover from years ago. She's been having dreams of him lately and is having a hard time shaking the dreams off.

One evening while out walking through the woods she up on a trail of blood.Blood with no smell. Her vampire senses can't pickup on the smell.Confused she follows the trail and finds a man who has shot by an arrow. She gets up close to him and suddenly can smell the blood. She suddenly wants to drain his blood from him.But yet she also feels a sudden desire for this man.She can't figure out why she is so aroused by him....Until..... Well you gotta read this amazing little story. Not gonna give it all away :)

Seduced ~ This story was awesome. You have a sexy hunk of a vampire vs. a hot little lawyer named Isabel.

Isabel lives with her sister. Her sister is suddenly dating a very hot looking man who appears out of nowhere and she's not liking it.Isabel just knows he's up to something. So one night after Micah drops her sister off at home,Isabel decides to follow him to what it is he up to.

Micah is a very hot vampire and he is on the prowl when he suddenly discovers he is being followed. By no other than the sister of his interest. When Micah approaches Isabel to let her know he is on to her. Things get pretty hot. And I don't mean as in a fight.

Loved this story!

The Lockwood Chronicles Episode 1: A Chance Meeting by Katrina LaFond

“…Madeline could feel Alexander's body tense against her as the kiss deepened, and then his lips left hers, trailing down to the line of her throat. Madeline let her head fall back, losing herself in the feel of his mouth on her skin, his hands on her body. She heard him groan, a sound of need and frustration, and a shiver coursed through her body, her knees going weak. If it weren’t for his embrace, she was certain she would’ve melted into a puddle at his feet. His breath feathered across the skin at her throat as he nibbled gently, and her arms came up, cradling him to her. Then there was a sudden, white hot whip of pain, followed instantly by an all consuming, searing pleasure that made her cry out.

Alexander lost himself in her, in the taste of her blood, in the feel of her slender body, pliant in his arms. She surrounded him, consumed him, and he knew that, as strong as he was, as powerful as he’d become, she would forever rule him, would forever be able to command him with barely a whisper. He nearly forgot what he was doing, how close he was to taking her where she would not want to go yet, when he felt danger’s approach. His every nerve jangled in warning and he pulled away from her, a growl rumbling low in his throat. “Madeline,” he whispered huskily, “look at me.” She did so without question, meeting his molten blue eyes. “Sleep,” he commanded, and her world fell away into darkness…..”

When Madeline Connors stepped off the plane in London, she stepped into a whole new world--a dark and dangerous world that had only ever existed for her in books and movies. They met by accident-a moment's direction and she collided with Alexander Lockwood. One look into his crystal blue eyes and she was lost, in love before she even knew his name.

Tich's Review:

The Lockwood Chronicles are broken down into episodes which makes for a fun, fast read.  I am loving these shorter stories because I can sit down and read them in one sitting. A Chance Meeting is the beginning of The Lockwood story. Katrina LaFond wrote an excellent introduction when she wrote this episode.

Madeline is headed to London for vacation and as she is gathering her luggage in the airport she runs into Alexander Lockwood. Against her better judgement she accepts a dinner date with him. What she doesn't know is that this could open the door to a dark and dangerous world, something that she has only read about in novels.

The moment Alexander looks into Madeline's eyes he knows that she is special. He knows that bringing her into his world is dangerous but he can't seem to stop himself from asking her out to dinner.

If you are looking for a great romance written in short story format then look no further. I cannot wait to read episode two!

Her husband has a passion for himself. When Rebecca walks in on her husband and another woman things take a turn for her in more ways than she thought possible. She leaves her husbands office to make an appointment with a famous singer to get his contract approval for her to use his song for her up coming championship ride.

Truly a story worth sharing!! This a great read and I highly recommend this one!

She sure didn’t set out to do phone sex—she wanted to be a writer. But when her BFF framed her for plagiarism, she got in a tiny financial hole and saw this ad for “phone actresses”…

Hey, it’s not nearly as bad as it sounds. No pantyhose or pantsuits, no regular hours, you’re your own boss, and lots of people to talk to. Guys, that is. But here’s the odd thing—lots of them want to talk about more than Emily’s imagined attributes; they start to think of her as the best friend they’ll never have to meet.

Next thing you know, one of her customers gets killed and Emily knows a lot more about it than she should. But she can’t tell the nearest cop, who’s also her own true love, because then he’ll find out about her secret life. What’s a phone kitten to do? Solve the murder herself, of course—because wouldn’t it be a great story for the newspaper that wrongly fired her? It’s her ticket back to her real life—if it doesn’t get her killed.

One part cozy mystery, one part Jennifer Cruise-type witty romance, one part Diary of a Phone Sex Operator, Phone Kitten is your ticket to hours of giggles—so long as you’re not looking for raunch. Because this is so not it!

Ravens by Kaylie Austen

What are Ravens, and are they as the world wants us to believe—sinister and without human qualities? When abruptly taken from their world, select humans are transformed into creatures of the night with penetrating eyes and uncanny abilities that most believe are a threat to mankind. Stripped from their mundane and ordinary lives, these creatures have no choice but to stalk the night and fight back in order to survive.

One such Raven is eighteen-year-old Liam, who uses his telepathy to communicate with Kendra in order to lure her into the transformation. It proves to be a double-edged gambit that turns into a tumultuous journey. Racing against time to save her sister, whom she believed to be dead, Kendra falls through a portal and into a parallel world where humans hunt her. She becomes a Raven with ill-controlled powers, trapped in a torrid affair with Liam, and desperately struggles to find a grip on her new reality.

My Review:

Ravens is a unique YA story that completely captured my attention. I didn't want to put this book down and was sad when it ended. It was a well thought out story with entertaining characters. A huge plus for me was the fact that there was no bad language...at least not that I can remember. I definitely recommend this book.

Kendra is trying to overcome the loss of her sister and best friend. They disappeared ten years ago and now in order to cope, her mind has created a grown-up version of her best friend that she can talk to.

Liam has been keeping an eye on Kendra. She thinks that she is going crazy but he really is there...well he's in another diminsion but is transporting to her there.

When her sister is captured by hunters and her life is in danger, Liam does everything in his power to bring Kendra to his world to help him save her sister.

Again, I enjoyed Ravens! If I could give more that a five star rating I would!
Looking at all of the books that have gone to the big screen...I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THIS ONE HIT THE THEATERS.

My Review:

I love, love, love Christian Fiction. When Alison asked me if I would review Trust Me Twice I had to say yes, especially after seeing that it was a Christian Romance. I love reading about characters that have been struggling with their relationship with God, find peace in Him.
Alison Stanley did a fabulous job of creating down to earth characters in a wonderful romance.

Alana and Zac have been friends since birth, they even share a birthday. As small children they spent many hours playing with one another until the day that his family moves.

When they become teenagers and Zac moves back, Alana begins to feel a strong attraction to Zac. They bond again as friends but then the high school pressures drive him away from his friendship with her, which leaves her broken hearted.

Now that they are all grown up, Alana heads home for the holidays and who does she run into? Zac. After all those years apart, she finds that those feelings that were so well hidden are coming back like a flood, but she needs to figure out how to push back behind the wall she had built around them before her heart suffers once again.
